Surgery a success

Yesterday was the surgery to remove the lump from Kyrie's jaw. We had to be there at 6:00 am for the 7:30 am surgery, which made for a very early morning for us. Once we got there I loved how they did everything at St. Christopher's Children's hospital. After she was dressed and we saw the tons of doctors, nurses, and the anesthesiologist, she was ready to get started. They had her drink some versed which I thought was a great idea and also kind of funny. She was really loopy and it made her not care about anything. At that point I went to the waiting room and she went back to the OR. They put all the monitors on and then gave her gas to put her to sleep. It was when she was asleep that they started the IV and gave her a couple of other injections in the face for numbing purposes. I was glad she was asleep for that since by the looks of her hands it took a couple of tries to get it. It took about an hour but they were successful removing the cyst from her mouth so she didn't have to have 2 incisions. She now has dissoluble stitches in her mouth that we don't have to have removed.
This picture is before the surgery. They really do stamp the side of the body the surgery is on with a big YES stamp. Even though you could tell plain as day where the lump was.
As to be expected, the recovery was a little rough. It took her a long time to really come out of it. This is in the second recovery room.
You can see the 2 injection points on her face as well as some of the bruising in this picture.
When she finally could at least sit up we started to get ready to go home. They gave her a popsicle but she didn't have the strength to hold it herself and then only took 3 sucks when I helped her. I finally got her to drink some apple juice but right after she was dressed to go home it all came back up. The anesthetic had made her sick and the empty tummy didn't help either. So we changed her back into a clean hospital outfit so she could go home not covered in vomit. She threw up once more at home but then was able to at least keep things down.
She is doing a little better today in some ways. The numbing and other anesthetics have worn off now and she is complaining about the pain more. We have been giving her pain medicines but if anything touches the side of her face she cries out. Also she can't open her mouth as wide today and she is of course more swollen and bruised. We are glad to have this process over with and for it to be a success. Thanks to everyone for theirs prayers and fun packages. It made it a little better for Kyrie. A special thanks to my friend Charise who got up super early to babysit Ryan. I couldn't have done it without her. Thanks!

I'm so glad they didn't try to do the IV while she was awake poor girl. Hopefully it starts getting better fast!

It was so sad to see her hurting after she got bumped today while we were doing skype. It is so sad to see them just after surgery like that. Oh these poor little kids. But I am glad they were able to remove the cyst. Hopefully, that will heal well and not ever be a problem again.

You are such a sweet Mommy. And Kyrie is so cute as she was waking up in those pictures. I am so glad the scary stuff is over, and that she is on the mend.
