ER with Ryan

We were supposed to spend the evening at a ward Christmas party, but instead spent 3.5 hours in the emergency room with Ryan. He was watching a video on the laptop and lost his footing. The end result was him falling off and hitting his head first on the desk and then on one of my Christmas decorations. This particular decoration is a wood advent calender with 24 nails sticking out of it where wood ornaments hang as you count down to Christmas. Basically between the desk and the decoration it kind of acted like a grater and he got a nice head wound. This picture was taken at the ER after the bleeding had stopped and the skin started to harden.
The worst part was when they had to give him the lidocaine shot to numb it, but I am so thankful for modern medicine when unexpected accidents occur. The 4 staples can come out on Thursday. Problem is, we will be in Utah by that time and can't go get them out. Thank goodness I am married to someone who is experienced at removing staples. The doctor just gave Luke a pair of staple removers that we could take with us and remove them when it's time.
We are so thankful for our friend's the Smith's. They took Kyrie with them to the Christmas party so she wouldn't miss the fun and it was easier having to only keep one kid happy at the hospital. We ended up making it to the end of the party and Ryan still got to see Santa. We did have to wake him up every hour until midnight to make sure there wasn't any internal bleeding, and he was not happy about that. This morning he seems a little better. I just hope we don't have to repeat that day anytime soon.

That looks awful!!! So painful! I'm glad you have Dr in the family to help since you'll be here. Parker keeps asking me if he can see it when you guys come. Good luck with that healing quickly.

Head wounds always bleed so much and look absolutely horrible! I cringed reading about what he hit. Who knew fun decorations could be so hazardous in a fall? :) That's great that Luke can take them out. Yay for visiting family!
